ABSTRACT

Candida albicans is a dimorphic, gram-positive fungus that exhibits both yeast and filamentous growth. Growth of the organism either on surfaces or in biologic fluids results in an over-budding yeast-like form, measuring 2-34-6 mm (Fig. 1). When the organism invades tissue, both hyphae and pseudohyphae develop (Fig. 2). They are common in infected tissue.
