ABSTRACT

Introduction Obesity is a common problem amongst women of reproductive years, with 56% of women in the UK being either overweight or obese. Obesity has a negative impact on spontaneous conception, miscarriage, pregnancy and the long-term health of both mother and child due to both an increased rate of congenital anomalies and the possibility of metabolic disease in later life. Obesity also has a negative impact on male fertility (see also Chapter 3).
