ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION Preview long hair follicular unit transplantation (PLHFUT) is a concept that was adopted and developed by the author beginning in 2004 ( 1-4 ). In conventional follicular unit transplantation (FUT), donor hair is trimmed prior to tissue harvesting. In contrast, in PLHFUT donor hair is left at normal or slightly shortened length, such that by the end of the procedure patients have a temporary impression of how transplanted hair might appear once it is fully grown ( Fig. 16A-1a-f ). The rationale behind PLHFUT and the techniques used in the procedure are outlined below. An accompanying DVD includes video (Video 16A) footage of donor harvesting, graft preparation, recipient site creation and graft implantation during PLHFUT.
