ABSTRACT
Cosmetic selection criteria in the postsurgical patient depend upon the type of wound created. Incisional wounds, closed by sutures, expose only a small amount of unhealed skin to topical cosmetics while large surface area wounds, such as those created by shave excisions, dermabrasions, and chemical peels, are allowed to heal by secondary intention exposing large unhealed skin areas to topical cosmetics.
