ABSTRACT

This chapter provides explanations of various learning styles and perceptual modalities to incorporate in orientations. Adults learn through a variety of means. One person may learn better by listening; another person may be visual and prefer to read instructions; someone else may need a demonstration. No one learning mode is right or even better than another. An effective trainer must understand the different perceptual modes; that is, the ways in which people take in and process information. The organizational landscape has changed dramatically and will continue to change in the future. A diverse workforce has altered not only the way companies do business but also the way they train their workers. Today’s training environment is a patchwork of cultures. Cultural differences include ethnicity, race, gender, age and chosen affiliations. People from different cultures can enrich the learning experience. Today’s training audiences represent a variety of special needs and considerations.
