ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the timeline for preparation actions for a new employee orientation programme. It presents the general lists of facilitator and participant materials and equipment for the employee orientation programme. Providing coffee, tea, fruit and pastries is a great way to begin each morning session, and fruit juice, snacks and soft drinks served during the afternoon break help keep energy levels up and help establish and maintain rapport. The chapter describes the primary responsibilities of the programme facilitator. Questions increase group participation. Discussion generated by the questions will help participants share their knowledge and experience. The ability to listen and respond effectively is one of the trainer’s most important skills. Providing feedback can reinforce a particular point, enhance a participant’s self-esteem and encourage further discussion.
