ABSTRACT

12.1 The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992, together with the other ‘six pack’ Regulations, came into operation on 1 January 1993. Their aim was to combat upper limb pains and discomfort, eye and eyesight effects, together with general fatigue and stress associated with work at DSE. The HSE state in the guidance booklet to the Regulations (ref. 1) that they do not consider there are any radiation risks from DSE or special problems for pregnant women. The Regulations require Assessments to be carried out to identify any health and safety risks at workstations used by ‘users’ or ‘operators’ (as defined). ‘Users’ have the right to an eye and eyesight test and any spectacles (or contact lenses) found to be necessary for their DSE work must be provided by their employer.
