ABSTRACT
In this chapter you will get a chance to explore what is meant by the words ‘leadership’ and ‘management’ and how the two fit together. A lot has been written about both over the last century or so, not all of it particularly innovative – often the same ideas reappear in slightly different words. However, there are some common themes that clearly emerge and these provide the basis for agreeing a commonsense definition of what it is that leaders do.
