ABSTRACT
In this chapter we’ll be looking at the three major search engine directories on the Web – Yahoo, the Open Directory, and LookSmart. As well as gaining an understanding of how each of these engines works, you will learn the best way to get your site listed at all three, and tips on how to improve your site listing. There is a marked distinction between how a directory-based search engine works and how a crawler-based search engine works, and this is discussed first.
