ABSTRACT

The interactive writer has to be able to write for many media, such as video, print, and audio. He or she also has to understand how the elements of interactive media affect communicating information or telling a story. These elements include interactivity, the role of the player, interactive structure, and interactive approaches to material, such as simulations and worlds. In addition to meeting creative challenges, the interactive writer needs a certain amount of technical knowledge. The writer does not have to be a programmer or have any formal technical training, but he or she does need to have a general understanding of interactive technology to effectively use these tools to communicate. Internships are a great way to get professional experience and build up the portfolio. In addition to getting strong skills and a good portfolio, readers need to meet people in the industry, because so many jobs are made through personal contact.
