A porch lamp or a lamp for a dark corridor is to be switched on for 2 minutes by pressing a button briefly. Use a 555 timer in monostable mode.
An egg timer is based on a 555 monostable that switches on an LED. Press a button when you put the egg in the boiling water. The LED comes on until the egg is ready, 5 minutes later.
