ABSTRACT

The technologies that have recently converged to allow instant publishing of text, video and audio have all been swimming around the Internet for years. In fact there are only a few new elements in this recipe, so often the case with wonderful things. Like the great primordial ooze, the Internet is teaming with millions of elementary particles, merging, growing, dying and being re-used. Once in a while, a little bit of lucky cohesion happens and something great happens. P2P applications and MP3 encoding came together and a digital music revolution was born, in spite of much hand wringing by record producers predicting the end of the music world.
