ABSTRACT
The Middle East commonly refers to the lands from the eastern shores of the Mediterranean and Aegean Seas to India. Geographically, it encompasses areas of the eastern Mediterranean and central Asia. This chapter includes material on these 14 countries: Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, and Iran. Note that these countries are bounded by six major waterways: Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea, Persian Gulf, and Caspian Sea.
