ABSTRACT

Whether you have toiled in HR for three decades or have yet to devote one hour of work to HR, we recommend you read the first four chapters in sequence. By doing so, you will be able to put the subsequent chapters in context and will thus gain more from them. You can read the “gaining knowledge” chapters (5, 6, and 7) in any order, depending on your needs. For example, you may want to read the chapter on gaining self-knowledge (Chapter 5) first if that is the area of knowledge necessary for HR success that you think is in most need of your attention. Similarly, if you believe organizational knowledge represents a clear and important gap in your knowledge base, you may want to read Chapter 7 first before taking on 5 and 6. We suggest you read Chapters 8 and 9 in that order after you have finished with the first seven chapters.
