ABSTRACT

In leading training seminars over the years, we have found that there tend to be three groups of participants. The “vacationers” are the ones who come for a few days off work. The “prisoners” are the ones who were told they had to be there. Finally, there are the self-motivated “learners”—those with initiative and drive who take their learning seriously and put their lessons to use. We know that everyone can fall into any of these categories at one time or another. The important point is that you must become a “learner.” If you are to survive in this evolving field, you must drink up knowledge and apply it continuously. So although you might not always be motivated to attend seminars or engage in the many other learning strategies we recommend in this chapter, we hope you give them strong consideration.
