Structural conservation: wall and easel paintings

Transfer (see Fig. i) Detaching a painting from its support, and reattaching it onto another support. At times, when paintings were detached from a wall, they might be replaced in the same position, once the stability and conservation of the original wall or plaster had been attended to. Wall paintings were transferred using one of three techniques: strappo, stacco and a massello.
