ABSTRACT

Look at the following case study, which is based very closely on a real incident that appeared before an Employment Tribunal.

A female employee claimed that sex discrimination was the reason she was selected for redundancy ahead of six male employees with similar service and experience. She had been the only woman in a department of more than 200 employees. She said she had to eat her lunch in the ladies’ room because the men watched hard core pornographic videos during their meal breaks. She found the videos offensive and degrading.
