ABSTRACT
Dmitri failed to cope with the machinery he had to use. He was therefore moved to very low-level work with people from his own cultural group only. As a result, he learned very little English, and his problems of communication and understanding became even worse. The group of immigrants with whom he was working did not give him much help – indeed the team leader complained they were always fighting each other.
