ABSTRACT

In the past the role of the ‘manager’ involved taking all the decisions for the team. The manager told the team members what to do, and they did it. However, with the modern organizational structure being wider and flatter (i.e. less hierarchical) than previously, and work in general being so much more complex and specialized, managers have no choice but to delegate many of their traditional tasks, such as problem-solving and decision-making, to members of their team.
