ABSTRACT
So what is at stake in the struggle over copyright policy and DRM technologies? The outcome affects an impressive list of important basic issues of modern life in a democratic society: free expression and free speech, the public right of fair use, the free flow of information and the marketplace of ideas, the future of innovation in technology, and the future of key industries, including the $274 billion dollar entertainment and media industry (as shown in Figure 7.1) and the $113 billion consumer electronics industry.
