ABSTRACT
The main practical difference between speech and writing is that speech is temporary. Like the ripples on a pond, speech soon fades away without a trace. Speech is fine for getting immediate action and communicating small amounts of information, but it is very ineffective when:
the speaker tries to communicate a lot of information; the listeners have to remember it for a long time.
