ABSTRACT

The ultimate goal of any editing machine is to create a person-machine interface that can communicate near-instantaneous information. Avid Xpress Pro is the result of generations of software development by Avid Technology in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. One of the reasons Avid has been such an industry leader is the development of the graphical user interface (GUI). The GUI on Avid systems is the gold standard that other developers seek to attain. Scalable architecture is a term used collectively by various manufacturers of editing and compositing systems that refers to the software’s ability to adapt or continue as technology increases. The type of computer required for Xpress should correlate directly with the type of media produced. In order to work efficiently with uncompressed 1:1 video with the optional Mojo and to be able to take advantage of real-time effects, a very fast Central Processing Unit would be necessary. Every Xpress Pro can use at least 1 GB memory.
