ABSTRACT

The fifth, final and potentially most influential stage for embedding innovation to improve performance is the review stage. Often forgotten, this is for many organizations the point where the greatest long-term benefits are actually put in place. This is where the sustainability of approach is discussed, new opportunities are highlighted and necessary improvements are first identified. It is the point where the component activities undertaken and the decisions made throughout the other four stages are reviewed and, 317especially for design and implementation, where the respective approaches taken are investigated. Although the final stage, this is also a precursor to the next round of enhancements. As it ends one cycle, so the review stage begins the next. It is the vital link in an ongoing programme of continuous improvement focused on constantly raising performance by improving how the firm addresses the challenges it faces through leveraging innovation. It is therefore vital that it is not forgotten.
