ABSTRACT
The emerging knowledge era is providing opportunities to reframe our thinking about how organizations work-what they value, what their assets look like, and how they create the capabilities needed for effective performance to stay ahead as opposed to lagging behind the curve of rapidly changing market demands. Chapter 1 sets the stage for the development of communities of practice within organizations by discussing the fundamental changes in business concepts and the need for new mindsets and approaches illustrated with Clarica’s development of an enterprise-wide knowledge strategy.
