ABSTRACT

Organizations which operate globally are often much larger than the economies of developing countries and have no electorate to answer to. Many such companies operate in the UK and some global companies are also based here. Too many of the comments made about them are in the form of simplistic slogans, and many multinationals have achieved much that is good in developed and developing countries, But they have been associated with disasters such as Bhopal and Thalidomide, and are increasingly able to move their operations around the world using the floating factory concept. They are frequently objects of suspicion and pilloried by environmental and other pressure groups.
