ABSTRACT
Because of these difficult tasks, a multi-skilled workteam was needed. Some of Derek’s workteam had been with the firm for a number of years, while others were fairly new. Among the skills and knowledge needed in the workteam were:
computer keyboard skills; traffic direction; stock control clerical work, including processing the paperwork for
the truck drivers; reading bar-coded tags and ‘freshness indicators’ with a hand-held
terminal, and entering the data from this terminal into the computer system;
loading vehicles in the correct way; safety control.
