ABSTRACT
The item of cutting room equipment you will use most will be the film joiner or splicer as it is often called. The process of making a join will be discussed later together with cutting techniques for picture (Pages 56 and 64). At this stage we will simply describe the types of film joiner you will find in a cutting room. Film can be joined with tape or with cement. Tape joins are essentially temporary. Cement joins are permanent. Both types are widely used and you must know how to operate joiners of both kinds.
