ABSTRACT

Narrative that Responds to User Interaction Computer animation is the main source of animation for multimedia applications. Typically, an excerpt of animation is synchronised with some event, which may be machine initiated or user initiated. Other media, such as sound or digital video, may also be played back to the user. Elaborate documents, such as interactive CD-ROMs, can be constructed using such mechanisms. In general though, these applications simply present pre-recorded media to the user. This chapter will explore techniques that allow the expression of a narrative that is capable of responding to user interaction, by generating media dynamically in response to that interaction.
