ABSTRACT

In common with photography and video, cinematography uses a number of different ‘formats’ or film gate dimensions on various gauges or widths of perforated film. The cine camera viewfinder has interchangeable plates with masks to show the presentation format for which the film is intended. The cine camera is essentially a means of exposing film at a predetermined frame rate in pictures per second and accurately registering and locating each frame in the film gate or focal plane. There have been many cine cameras with non-interchangeable lenses, especially amateur Super 8 mm varieties with versatile zoom lenses, but an interchangeable lens is always desirable. Most cine camera systems have an adapter to allow the use of high-quality, special purpose photographic lenses, even if they are of rather long focal length for the format. For photographic instrumentation and high speed cine purposes, such lenses are very useful and are available ruggedized.
