ABSTRACT

Communication issues primarily affect users who have a hearing disability but also include the location and height of telephones. In a large space such as a meeting room or theatre there are basically two choices for electronic communication with people with hearing disabilities – either induction loops or infra-red transmission systems. There is also the use of sign-language interpreters and of hearing-aware staff. (Note: The correct symbol should be used to indicate the induction loop, infra-red or hearing-aware symbols (see Figure 7.1).)
