ABSTRACT

The National Radio Systems Committee is a joint committee of the National Association of Broadcasters and the Electronic Industries Association. Aside from the initial contract negotiation, and periodic monitoring of injection level, the broadcaster involvement is none. The broadcaster that takes advantage of the benefits of Radio Data System (RDS) will be able to attract more listeners and exchange information in ways never before possible. RDS provides a multitude of ways to transmit data for yourself or others willing to lease subcarrier capacity. The Alternate Frequency feature allows an RDS receiver to automatically switch between multiple transmitters broadcasting on different frequencies. RDS essentially adds more potential features and services, but at the expense of paging capacity. The Radio Broadcast Data System Standard provides the capability to time multiplex RDS with Mobile Broadcast System (MBS). It should also be pointed out that transmission of multiplex MBS may cause degradation of receiver performance due to the reduced repetition rate of RDS information.
