ABSTRACT

The world around us is changing more rapidly than any time in the history of humankind. While the 1990s seems to be more peaceful and prosperous than other periods in recent times, it is clear that we are undergoing a significant transition in the political and military arenas, with the end of the Cold War, and breakup of the Soviet Union, and certain Eastern European nations. This, coupled with the continued knowledge explosion and the exponential growth in international trade, makes it more and more difficult to determine what the world will look like in the not too distant future.
