ABSTRACT
The modern job offers increasing opportunity for discretion as choices need to be made on how time is spent on various tasks and responsibilities; on whether work is conducted privately or in the company of others. The fact that responsibilities have been added to the tasks workers have been traditionally set elevates the status of the worker. Correspondingly, it lessens the distinction between workers and ‘executives’.
