ABSTRACT

In an optimistic spirit I decided to take advantage of the opportunity that presented itself when talking to an industrial audience on how work might be set up in the future. After a critical analysis of the contemporary scene, I outlined some rudimentary and alternative methods for setting up work and invited volunteers to try them out in their own companies. We were all in a learning situation and could benefit from each other's experience. An experimental approach conducted on a broad scale could set the scene for a significant advance. A number of companies volunteered to take part in the trials, all of which seemed an encouraging start.
