ABSTRACT

Once you have decided to become a contractor, you can't simply resign your job and wait for the contract to arrive. You must hunt for a suitable job. Finding a contract is exactly like any other job search. There are many agencies around, most of which deal with both contract and permanent staff. They advertise mainly in the weekly computer press. You apply to them for contracts, they interview you, the client interviews you and Bob's your uncle. That, at least, is the theory. In practice there are differences.
