ABSTRACT

The use of computers to change, augment, and reshape original film images has been a practice that has steadily been on the rise. Further, the use of computers has created characters and scenes which were integral to the stories that the filmmakers sought to tell. Without computers and software, filmmakers would not have been able to realize some of the fantastic scenes and creatures that films in the 1990s have brought. Such examples as the realistic dinosaurs of Jurassic Park (1993), the liquid metal T1000 of Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), and the mask with magical properties of The Mask (1994), are all examples of the film-digital-film connection.
