ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the physical and creative environment of the telecine suite. The main work center of the telecine control room is the control console, which provides a location for the operational equipment needed by the telecine operator as well as work space for clients. It is amazing how often clients attempt to begin a telecine transfer without knowing what videotape formats are required for their next post-production step. Although the size and shape of telecine control rooms are unlike theaters, speakers are placed to provide the same sound perspective relative to the picture monitor and focused on the control console's primary viewing location. The telecine and editing personnel, however, are usually seeing the film for the first time and need to be filled in on all pertinent information. The client should clearly describe what material has been shot, what the final product is to be, and who will be directing the actual color correction.
