If you want HD to look as close as possible to film then the most significant decision you can make is
to hire a Director of Photography (DoP) with a film background. No other decision will contribute more than this. The history of film goes back well over a hundred years and this background has created a certain ethic that somehow runs through the veins of a film DoP. Live television is a very
different medium and has been going just over 60 years, while digital cinematography has been around a little over 10 years. Hire the people with the relevant experience and hire the best you can afford.
