ABSTRACT

In general, if most of the other crafts on set treat HD as a 35mm shoot all will be well. There are a few instances, however, where certain specific matters are different, so let us look at them craft by craft.

In the main, sets and set dressing will need to be every bit as good as for 35mm; the resolution of HD is as good so, if a join is going to show on 35, it will show on HD. Colours are much the same but, if

you are shooting with any HD video camera other than a Panavision one, you will have to watch deep or dark reds as they tend to come through in the equivalent density but coloured orange. The Panavision camera will record a perfect deep or dark red, so you have no need to worry when

using that camera. There is a very slight tendency to moire´ patterning just as there will be with any CCD (Charge

Coupled Device) pixel-driven imaging system, which includes virtually every video camera. Textures

having very fine regular detail should therefore be camera tested at an early stage. Very pure whites can be a slight problem especially when put next to, or in, a very dark colour. But
