Managing Downsizing

You just got word from your superior that the company will be downsizing. There will be terminations in your department. You will need to react quickly to control fear and helplessness and to provide support and counseling to both terminated and remaining employees. Layoffs will mean increased stress, decreased morale, and increased workloads for the employees who are left.
