ABSTRACT

Today's employees must be flexible and prepared for continuous changes in their workplace. Managers must not only counsel their workers on the importance of preparing for change, but they must also understand that change is necessary for growth. Some ways in which you can prepare for change while planning your career are to:

Discuss your thoughts about change with a trustworthy friend. Pick someone who is honest with you and may not necessarily agree with you on all accounts. It will be useful to hear another perspective. An open discussion about change is an important step in recognizing your true feelings on the matter.

Make a private commitment to a personal discipline and adhere to it daily. This effort helps to build self-confidence, an essential step for change.

Educate yourself about your company and your industry. Be familiar with industry trends, which are good indicators of future changes. Proactive responses to change are possible when you understand the big picture.

Define a mission statement for yourself in regard to your work. What are your responsibilities to your customers, company, and team? A clear understanding of purpose and goals is helpful for evaluating your responses to change.

Evaluate your finances and strive to remove all debt. Debt tends to keep you tied to your current employment and prevent you from feeling free to pursue new avenues.

Commit to and complete one personal growth project annually. Changes at work may not always be under your control, but such projects will give you a sense of moving forward in your personal life.
