ABSTRACT

Managers play key roles in the implementation of labor contracts. They must maintain positive relationships with union representatives while protecting the rights of management. Their interactions with staff may have vital consequences in terms of the relationship between management and union. Managers, therefore, must be well acquainted with the labor practices of the company and should follow procedures as outlined. Inconsistent or unfair practices by a manager could result in consequences that reach far beyond his or her department or even the company. Potentially, the employer could be charged with breaking the labor contract or even breaking the law.
