ABSTRACT

Apprenticeships are a combination of on-the-job training and related classroom instruction. They are common in Europe, especially in Germany where apprentices make up 6 percent of the workforce. In the U.S., the figure is approximately 0.16 percent. 6 While these programs are rare in this country, an apprenticeship may allow you to advance at your place of employment, enter the job market if you don't have a job, or change careers.
