ABSTRACT

As a manager, you may find that it is your job to chair many of the meetings you attend. This gives you an excellent opportunity to make sure the meetings run smoothly and accomplish their goals. As the chairperson, you can maintain the enthusiasm and interest from the other participants. You will have the ability to encourage participation, solicit input, and urge good listening habits. Be sure to:

Start and stop on time.

Allow enough time for each topic, and avoid the reading of overlong reports.

Have an agenda, preferably available ahead of time so everyone can be prepared.

Make sure each member can participate without interruption.

Keep the meetings focused.

Record and distribute meeting minutes.

Be able to summarize the information presented.

Assign tasks, topics, and/or deadlines for the next meeting.
