PRIMO Lens Data - Entrance Pupil Positions All lenses have six "cardinal" points-the plane of focus (the "object plane"), the entrance pupil, the front and rear nodal points, the exit pupil and the image plane. The positioning of these six planes relative to one another is a part of the stuff that lens design is made of.
