ABSTRACT
The final chapter brings together theoretical and practical considerations for all those
concerned with specifying buildings. One of our aims in writing this book was to pro-
vide guidance based on observed behaviour. We have described how manufacturers
market their products to specifiers, how offices filter this material and how specifiers
specify. Here, we put forward a model of the specifier’s innovation-decision process
based on our research findings. This is followed by a discussion of the methods used
and suggestions for future research into the specification process. We then discuss the
need for comparative information and look at the establishment and maintenance of
best practice before concluding with a brief discussion of future trends.
