ABSTRACT

Over the preceding chapters we have looked at the management task from several angles. We have put the manager’s task into its historical context, seeing how different management theories evolved and how they still influence current practices. We have seen how all organizations, regardless of whether they are profit-making or non-profit-making organizations, manufacturing companies or providers of professional services, have certain core departmental functions in common. The majority of managers will, at some point of their careers, be involved in one or another of these functions production, marketing, finance or personnel to some degree.
