ABSTRACT

This chapter has been the most difficult to write for this third edition, not because the subject is intrinsically difficult, indeed manufacturers of data management and non-linear editing systems have been spectacularly successful in making their products intuitively easy to use. No, it has been difficult to write because of the enthusiasm these products have engendered in the author! I have tried to avoid turning this chapter into a pocket textbook on how to edit, and I hope I have been successful, but any discussion of timecode application in video-assisted film post-production is bound to touch on the business, if not the art, of editing.
