ABSTRACT

With its land mass of about 11.7 million square miles and comprised of more than 50 countries, the continent of Africa has an enormous potential for tourism development. This potential is based on an assembly of diverse physical and cultural resources that have been well-documented (Teye, 1987; Ankomah and Crompton, 1990). Despite this potential, a viable tourism industry has not emerged in the majority of the countries in Africa.
