ABSTRACT

The fluid head in a camera gives hands-on control. The heads are designed with springs and lubricants that give the camera operator pan and tilt movement. The device usually has adjustment levers or collars that can restrict or lighten the friction of each head; the system is similar to that of an adjustable power-steering unit. Each operator likes a certain feel to enhance the movement of the camera. There are several designs. I describe some that are used daily.
